Our Annual General Meeting

SLNRWP Group1The ladies of the Micoud Cluster, Babonneau Cluster, Anse Kawet Crafters and the Canabelle Cooperative were out in their official colours, primed and ready for the 2015 Annual General Meeting held on July 26th.

The display area was loaded with products from each of the clusters that did not disappoint! The items ranged from hand-crafted jewellery to fine exotic soaps and intricately woven items to high quality flour. Samples of flavourful local fudges and cakes were offered, along with enticing punch drinks like pumpkin, breadfruit, dasheen and soursop.

The President of the well-established Rural Women’s group, Mrs Carmen Nurse, welcomed all present to the second annual meeting and wasted no time in recognizing the ladies of the group that continuously work hard to keep their products on the market. Mrs Nurse also highlighted the fact that the group is in serious nMinisters1eed of a processing plant as they have long outgrown the shelf space in their kitchens. Her words did not fall on deaf ears as the women were supported by the Minister of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, The Hon Alvina Bertrame Reynolds who is also the representative for the area of Babonneau, along with the Minister of Agriculture, Food Production, Fisheries, Co-operatives and Rural Development the Hon Moses Jn Baptiste. Both Ministers applauded the women’s work and gave full support of their development.

During the gift giving ceremony, the women personally thanked several staff members of the Inter-American Institute for the Cooperation of Agriculture (IICA) for their continued assistance and swift responding times.

At the end of the formalities, the women provided a sumptuous lunch for all, highlighting the women that also do contract catering services on the side. After making short work of lunch, the group members proceeded hastily to the nominations for board members.
